Circle Arts'

K.I.D.s
Klasses In Drama

Registration
for Spring classes will be held on
Wednesday, January 30th, from 5 - 6 pm
in the Circle Arts Theatre lobby

The goal of Circle Arts' K.I.D.s Klasses in Drama (formerly known as Fantasy Factory) is to encourage self-discovery and build self-confidence, while teaching the discipline of theatre to 2nd through 8th grade students.

Many of the Circle Arts' K.I.D.s "graduates" become members of our touring youth company, The Inner Circle, and later fill roles in our main stage productions.

The school is supervised by ROBERTA ELLIOTT … Artistic/Technical Director of Circle Arts Theatre, director of the Inner Circle, the theatre’s youth touring company … degrees from Trinity University in Drama and Religion … has completed education classes at Trinity and Southwest Texas State University … has worked with Circle Arts since the age of 14 … became paid staff member in 1978.

Instructor ROBIN WILLIAMS is also the Technical Assistant at Circle Arts Theatre … graduated from Texas University with degrees in Theatre and Education … has choreographed several major productions for the theatre … directed Dinner With the Arts for the Arts Council … was a valuable member of the Inner Circle, the theatre's touring youth company for three years … has also taught summer theatre classes for youth in Austin.

What sort of material will your child be performing?

2nd - 4th grades: 10-12 minute play with an actor on stage to help them.
5th & 6th grades: 12-15 minute play with an adult narrator on the side.
7th & 8th grades: 20-25 minute play with the students being their own narrators.
Advanced: 25-35 minute play, possibly with music, and only themselves to rely on.
Private Lessons: Monologues chosen by the teacher, appropriate for the child's age and ability.

What about costumes?

They are necessary for our recitals, but they need not be expensive. You might be asked to buy a pair of tights, or cut an overlay from an old sheet. Usually by borrowing from friends, or with additions from the theatre's costume loft, we can achieve the desired result for under $10.00.

TOP

When does class begin?

Class time is listed in your schedule sheet which you will receive at registration. Class time is limited, so it is very important that everyone be there on time.

TOP

What happens if you're late to pick up your child?

It is the policy of this theatre that no child be left unattended. However, the staff is on a tight schedule and for any child left 5 minutes after class has ended, there will be a $5.00 charge. $5.00 will be added for each additional 10 minutes. Payment due at the next class.

TOP

Are classes open to the public?

Parents are welcomed and encouraged to come to the first day of class. However, after this we conduct closed classes so that the students will be able to concentrate on the material rather than showing off for their folks, or feeling self-conscious in front of strangers. Please fell free to listen in from the lobby.

TOP

Will your child need to practice outside of class?

Definitely! Please encourage your child to practice what he/she learns in class every day. The advantage of drama is that it can be practiced anywhere, at any time. Soon they will be given a script and will be required to memorize their part.
